LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18)– Family and friends of 17-year-old Alisa “Lucy” Reed are still trying to make sense of the chaotic scene that played out at her vigil Thursday night.

“Yesterday, February 14th, 2019, was supposed to be Lucy’s day, nobody else’s day, and people took that away from us,” said Lucy’s cousin Alize Washington.

The vigil was held at Charles Young Park and it was supposed to be an opportunity to honor the life of Alisa Reed, who was shot and killed last month. The focus shifted when the group heard gunshots.

LEX 18 had a crew at the vigil when the shots were fired.

No one was hit, but police say they found shell casings nearby on Race Street. It is not clear if that incident had anything to do with the vigil, but family and friends are dismayed that it clouded a night meant to honor Lucy.
