LOUISVILLE, Ky. (LEX 18)– A former University of Louisville football player accused of rape will not face criminal charges.
In October, a female student reported Kemari Averett raped her after she went to his apartment to sleep.
Averett faced a grand jury alone on Monday. They found there was not enough evidence for an indictment.
He is now suing his accuser and the university, seeking $15 million in damages for defamation of character and gender discrimination.
“I feel awesome,” said Averett. “Somebody finally believed my side of the story because like everyone was against me. And I know God helped me out today and let the truth come to the light today. So I feel great.”
UofL is not commenting on the lawsuit or the grand jury.
