FRANKFORT, Ky. (LEX 18) — Kentucky firefighters will tell you the best way to avoid a deadly fire is to know how to prevent them.
Firefighters are focusing on teaching people about fire prevention and they’re doing that through the new “Turn Your Attention To Fire Prevention” campaign.
The Kentucky Association of Fire Chiefs laid 49 empty pairs of shoes on the ground of the Capitol rotunda to represent every Kentuckian who died because of house fires. Some of those were baby shoes.
This entire campaign focuses on reducing fire deaths through awareness, education, and solutions.

“I look at these shoes down there- it’s tragic. But some of those really tiny ones – we just don’t know what potential they had,” Michael Morgan, Kentucky Association of Fire Chiefs told LEX 18.
Throughout the campaign, they will teach people about simple things that can make a big difference such as smoke detectors, sprinklers, and fire extinguishers.
