LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18)– One of the Commonwealth’s key witnesses in a 2017 shooting took the stand Tuesday in Fayette Circuit Court.

Nearly two years after a bullet struck her spine as she slept near a window at a friend’s home, Amya Catching testified in court about the incident, and what her life has been like since. She choked back tears at times recalling the tragedy, which happened the night before her 12th birthday.

The alleged shooter, Carlos Jenkins, is facing 11 counts of wanton endangerment for what police say was his role in a shooting spree, which left the-now-13-year-old catching paralyzed from the waist down.

“We were watching a movie and then there was a hole in the TV,” Catching said. “And…. then… more bullets are going through the house so we got up to run, but… I…”

Catching said she knew she had been struck by a bullet, not from the pain, but because her body felt like, “jello”. and she, “couldn’t get up”.
