LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) – Citing a high number of employee absences, Fayette County Schools will be closed Thursday, February 28, 2019.

This follows the news that KY 120 United called for a sickout to protest House Bill 525 that would change the structure of the Teacher Retirement System Board of Trustees.

“As of 8 this evening, roughly 40 percent of our school employees have reported that they will not be at school tomorrow, which leaves our district without enough substitutes to cover all of the absences. As a result, all Fayette County Public Schools will be closed on Thursday, February 28, 2019,” said a spokesperson with the school board.

LEX 18 will update this list as more information comes in. You can always view school closings here.
