SCOTT COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) – A youth basketball tournament that is raising funds for a Scott County Deputy injured in the line of duty is searching for referees.

The “Hoops for Deputy Morales” tournament is being held Saturday and Sunday at Royal Springs Middle School in Scott County.

Deputy Jaime Morales was shot in September of last year while he helped to capture a suspected serial bank robber. Morales was wearing a bulletproof vest but was struck in the side causing paralysis.

The youth basketball teams participating are travel teams, so the refs would need to be at least high school/college qualified to be able to participate.

The tournament on Saturday goes from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. On Sunday, games will be played from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.

There will also be a “law enforcement” game held on Saturday at 7pm, between the Georgetown Police Department and the Scott County Sheriff Department.
