KNOX COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — Kentucky State Police said Monday they have taken custody of a man accused of fatally shooting a Knox County man during a robbery.

Phillip Lee Lewis

Authorities said 25-year-old Phillip Lee Lewis was being held in the Knox County Detention Center after being extradited from Michigan, where he was arrested.

Officials say Lewis shot and killed 25-year-old Gary Medlin on Jan. 16 during a robbery.

Authorities say the deadly attack occurred just after midnight at the A&B Quickstop along U.S. Highway 25E in Gray.

Medlin left behind a wife and two sons.

“She’ll always have a lot of love and support. We’ll always help her with the babies,” Medlin’s mother, Brandy Frechette, said of her son’s widow. “We’ll reassure the babies that they grow up to know Gary, and how much he loved them.”

On Feb. 9, a tip lead led law enforcement to a home in Flint, Michigan, where Lewis was with his girlfriend. He came out without incident.
