KNOX COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — The person who police believe killed an innocent bystander during a robbery has been extradited to Knox County.

Phillip Lee Lewis was arrested in the death of Gary Medlin. Police say surveillance video shows Lewis shooting Medlin as he ran away during a robbery at the A&B Quick Stop.

Lewis was arrested in Flint, Michigan at his girlfriend’s home.

When LEX 18 spoke to Lewis in jail, he is adamant he has never been to Kentucky before.

“I’m scared. I’m sad, I’m scared. I know I didn’t do it. I ain’t ever been down on this end of Kentucky. I’ve never been to Kentucky at all. If I was, I’d go to Louisville. I know a few people from Flint that moved there,” Lewis told LEX 18’s Alexa Helwig during a jailhouse interview.
