GREENUP COUNTY, Ky. (WSAZ)– An Eastern Kentucky pet store owner is upset after a puppy was stolen on camera, but then later returned.

Jim Wente tells WSAZ a family came into the Bert’s Pet Center on Tuesday, and while employees were busy, they concealed the Chihuahua puppy and walked out of the store with it.

They say the puppy was in a display at the front of the store.

“It was blatant,” Wente said. “You can see in the video, he doesn’t get it right the first two times and then he finally stuffs it in his pocket and zips it the third time.”

He says the family hopped in a van and took off.

Wente says the incident took another turn the same night, when the puppy was returned to the store by a teen who was with the family when the puppy was taken.

A woman who says she’s the wife of the husband shown in the video tells a local TV station that they returned the dog as soon as they found it in their car.

However, Wente says the puppy was only returned after he posted surveillance video on Facebook.

Police say charges will be filed.
