LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18)– One person has died and another is fighting for his life following a shooting at a Lexington bar.

It happened around 4 p.m. Monday at Uncle 7’s Bar off Clays Mill Road.

Police say an altercation inside the bar, between 69-year-old Larry Walters and 68-year-old James Terry, led to multiple shots being fired.

Terry and another individual were transported to the hospital.

One victim told police he hadn’t realized he had been shot, thinking the pain in his back was from diving on the floor to avoid the gunfire.

According to the Fayette County coroner, Terry died early Tuesday morning as a result of a gunshot wound. The other vicitm is expected to undergo a second surgery.

A witness said the shooter attempted to flee in a black truck and gave the vehicle description to police. Authorities found the suspect outside his home. He has been taken into custody.

Walters is charged with murder, first-degree assault, four counts of first-degree wanton endangerment, and first-degree criminal mischief.

Walters’ attorney, Greg Coulson, entered a not guilty plea on his behalf and waived formal arraignment. Coulson told the court that Walters is a veteran who is being treated for a cyst on his brain, diabetes, and several other medical conditions.

The judge set Walters’ full cash bond at $75,000.
