ABU DHABI (LEX 18)– A Lexington gymnast is competing in the Special Olympics World Games this week.

The 2019 games kicked off Thursday in Abu Dhabi.

Tonya Cornett, 48, is scheduled to begin medal competition Friday.

She is coming off a 2018 USA Games performance that saw her claim four gold medals, including the all-around, and one silver.

Kentucky has two athletes competing at the World Summer Games.

Lee Dockins, of Russellville, will compete in rhythmic gymnastics.

More than 7,000 athletes from 170 countries are competing in this year’s games, which run through March 21.
