ANDERSON COUNTY, Ky (LEX 18) – Law enforcement officers came together Saturday morning to raise money for a 15-year-old girl who suffers from Scoliosis.

Erica Hickman was diagnosed with Scoliosis when she was 12 years old. Erica’s mom, Jennifer Hickman, says her condition has worsened over time, and it is vital that she get the surgery.

“These surgeons have stepped up and said we can absolutely do this procedure on her. Unfortunately they do not accept our insurance so we have to pay the surgeon fees upfront so that’s $65,000,” said Hickman.

The Hickman family has already raised $18,000.

The Lawrenceburg Police Department and the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office went head-to-head in a law enforcement shootout to help her reach that goal.

Lawrenceburg Police Chief, Bryan Taylor, said, “That’s what we do. We try to help and if we can, we’re going to do that.”

Erica and her family say they will not stop until they can afford the surgery.

“I see so much support and love from my friends. So it’s been really like inspiring to see other people come out for me like that, said Hickman.”

The Hickman family has started a GoFundMe page to raise money for Erica’s surgery.
