BOYLE COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18)– Students and faculty at Centre College in Danville are devastated after a beloved art teacher has died.
The school’s president made the shocking announcement Sunday that Professor Stephen Powell passed away unexpectedly over the weekend.
We’re told Powell touched countless lives in his 30 plus years working at the school.
After graduating from Centre College, he continued to make his mark on campus by becoming an art teacher at the school in the early 80’s.
Powell’s colleagues and former students are remembering a gifted art teacher, who they say is now looking down from above.
“It’s a great loss for the Centre community, its a great loss for the artistry that he won’t be preforming and he was also a wonderful person,” said Christine Eckerline, a former student.
Centre College had a Saint Patrick’s Day dance festival Sunday night and dedicated the performance to Powell.
