(NBC News)– A scam targeting families tries to trick people into thinking their loved ones have been abducted.
It’s known as virtual kidnapping and it is when a scammer calls, using information from social media to try and convince you that they have abducted your loved one.
Former Olympian and commentator Rowdy Gaines was among those targeted.
