WHITLEY COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — An infant is dead following a shooting in Whitley County.

According to the Fayette County Coroner, 4-day-old Amelia Johnson died Tuesday afternoon from Severe Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy.

Authorities say Amelia’s mother, 29-year-old Geri Johnson, died after being brought to Baptist Hospital in Corbin with a gunshot wound Saturday night.

Police said the shooting occurred on Steele Hollow Road in Corbin, and that Johnson’s boyfriend drove her to the hospital.

Johnson was pronounced dead at the hospital, but doctors were able to deliver Amelia. She was previously listed in critical condition at UK Hospital.
