Two Vehicle Crash In Whitesburg Leaves One Dead

WHITESBURG, Ky. (LEX 18)-  One person has died and two people were taken to the hospital following a two-car crash in Letcher County.

According to Kentucky State Police,  Michael T. Fugate was operating a 1994 Chevrolet Beretta northbound on KY 15, when the car crossed the center line and traveled into the southbound lane.  Fugate’s car collided with a 2012 Toyota Camry. Fugate was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Camry and a passenger were taken to the hospital.  The driver was later air-lifted to Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport, Tennessee, where she is in critical condition.  The passenger was treated and released.

Toxicology results from both drivers, which are collected during fatal crash investigations, are pending at this time.
