LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE 3)– A virtual reality training course is teaching legal gun owners how to safely and realistically handle a life-threatening situation.

U.S. Law Shield of Kentucky teamed up with the Virtual Tactical Academy to create various scenarios that portray real life situations.

Participants have a split second to make a decision on how to handle the crisis.

The training teaches five important skill set: knowing if and when you can shoot someone, giving verbal commands, taking cover, practicing your 911 call, and interacting with police.

“If you’re going to be carrying a gun you need to carry it responsibly and that comes with all the training also with education too,” said Time Collins, district manager of U.S. Law Shield of Kentucky.

The training has more than 800 different scenarios programmed into it.

Collins says the most important things gun owners can do is know their rights, and get educated.
