LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18)– A familiar face was honored in Lexington for his service to the LGBTQ community.

Former Mayor Jim Gray was recognized Sunday for his work to make Lexington a more inclusive city.

Under his watch, the city began to offer benefits to employees in domestic partnerships before gay marriage was legalized.

He was thanked by supporters for being a positive role model.

“We walk in the footsteps of those giants,” said Gray. “We today, you today are creating those same footsteps and you’re creating those same big shoulders for others to walk on.”

The event was organized by Just Fund Kentucky, a nonprofit that works to end discrimination against the LGBTQ community.
