LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) – A phone scam is being reported in the Laurel County area, according to Laurel County Sheriff John Root.
The caller is claiming they are from the Social Security Department. The caller says that Social Security payments have been stopped due to fraudulent activity and, if you do not respond immediately, then a lawsuit will be filed against you.
Root said that this is an obvious scam to scare individuals into giving out their Social Security Number and other personal information.
Root told LEX 18 to warn others about giving out their personal information. The Laurel County Sheriff’s Office is still investigating.
