LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) – New details are coming to light after a Laurel County man was arrested and charged with the murder of his toddler son.

The body of Joseph Brock, 1, was found inside a burning home at the Marvin Gardens Mobile Home Park.  State police say that after the fire broke out, Vaughn Brock ran from the scene.

In an interview with police, Vaughn Brock admitted to smoking a joint and falling asleep on the couch next to his son. When he awoke, he said there was fire to the right of the couch in the kitchen area.

Brock told detectives he searched for his son but the heat was too much and he fled the home.  State police say there were blisters on his ring and middle finger. Brock claimed he had burned his hand trying to open a baby gate during the fire, but the citation states that the burns are not consistent with grabbing a hot item.

He denied knowing that Joseph was inside the washing machine and said that he had never known his son to climb into the device.

Detectives pushed and asked if the child had been “acting up .” Brock stated that Joseph had behaved badly that evening, and then he asked for a lawyer.

Joseph Brock would have been two-years-old later this month. He was laid to rest Thursday morning.
