LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE 3)– Footage of a traffic stop involving an LMPD officer and a black teenager has been viewed over 900,000 times on YouTube.

According to WAVE 3 News, 18-year-old Tae Ahn Lea was pulled over in August 2018. The video from the officer’s body cam was just made public.

LMPD says they initiated the stop due to an improper traffic signal. When Lea answered a phone call from his mother, the officer pulled him out of the car. He was cuffed as officers searched.

Lea’s mother, a probation officer and private investigator, arrived on scene and asked why her son was in handcuffs for an alleged improper turn. An officer explained to Lea’s mother that her son was pulled over as part of a crackdown on violent crime.

Lea has never been in trouble with the law.

A K-9 was brought in to search for drugs, but nothing was found.
