LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18)– Lexington police believe they were a victim of “swatting”.

It happened around 8 p.m. Thursday in the 3500 block of Paris Pike.

Police say a caller told them she was being held against her will and assaulted by her father in a garage on a horse farm.

We’re told that when police arrived, they traced the cell phone’s signal and found it originated in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Police spent several hours at the farm investigating, but found nothing.

They determined they were being “swatted”, the act of deceiving first responders into investigating a location.

Police in Louisville dealt with a similar situation back in February.

There have been attempts in Congress to make swatting a federal crime, but so far none have passed.
