LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18)– Lexington’s sanitation workers gathered downtown Thursday evening to ask a simple question, “What’s Changed Since MLK?”

Thursday marked 51 years since Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated in Memphis.

At the time, he was there to stand with sanitation workers in their fight for safer working conditions and better pay.

Dozens rallied in front of the courthouse Thursday in hopes of continuing that fight all these years later.

Representatives from the local union say the same issues exist in 2019 for sanitation workers in Lexington.

At the event, speakers called on the mayor and Urban County Council to make substantive changes.
