LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) – Police in Lexington are investigating after gunfire erupted between two groups with innocent bystanders caught in harm’s way.

The shots were fired just after 2 a.m. Sunday morning in Lexington’s historic South Hill neighborhood, which is about the time several popular college hangouts were getting ready to close for the night.

Police say the incident appears to be a spillover from an earlier dispute at a nightclub. A group of four men were walking along Bolivar Street when a dark passenger car pulled up next to them and began shooting. Officials say some of the pedestrians returned fire.

Another car driving in the area was hit by gunfire, but no one inside was injured. Later, an individual showed up to the hospital with a wound but he is not cooperating with police.
