ESTILL COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18)– The man accused of using his girlfriend’s teaching job to contact teens for sex appeared in an Owsley County courtroom Thursday.

35-year-old Torstein Torsteinson is facing one charge of unlawful transaction with a minor and tampering with physical evidence.

Police say Torsteinson contacted at least four underage individuals by having a relationship with Sherry Murphy, a former Spanish teacher at Estill County High School.

On Thursday, a judge entered a not guilty plea for Torsteinson. He has been assigned a public defender and his bond was set at $10,000.

Murphy was also charged in this case. Troopers say she knew Torsteinson was contacting the students and did not report it. We’re told she deleted messages that were sent to a student.

Torsteinson will appear in court again at 9:30 a.m., April 17, in Estill County.

Murphy is expected to be in court later this month.
