COVINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18)– The Washington Post is fighting a lawsuit filed by lawyers for the family of a Kentucky high schooler, who claims the paper smeared his name.

Nicholas Sandmann, a student at Covington Catholic High School, became the center of an online firestorm in January when video showing him standing face-to-face with a Native American protestor in Washington D.C. went viral.

Sandmann’s attorneys claim the paper, dozens of other people, and media outlets lied about the incident, causing severe emotional trauma.

The Washington Post disagrees, and they have filed paperwork asking a judge to dismiss the lawsuit.
