LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) – Some schools near Jennifer and Eastland were placed on a soft lockdown after an incident involving a flare gun.

Police tell LEX 18 that an unknown suspect fired a flare gun in the direction of a contractor in the area.

Two elementary schools and Crawford Middle School were on a brief lockdown as police searched the area for the shooter.

“I was working and a guy came up to me, asked me if I wanted to buy a pistol. I said, ‘no, and maybe you should get away from here because it’s dangerous.’ ” I guess that offended him, and then he went across the road right there and then he shot at me,” said Jim Huber of Star Construction.

Officers are still looking for the suspect. They describe him as a white man, wearing a blue sweatshirt, jeans, and a white t-shirt. Huber says the man had a tattoo on his neck.
