PIKE COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — High winds blew off part of the roof of a home in Pike County this weekend.

Barbara Ratliff tells LEX 18 that she and her husband were sitting in the living room Sunday afternoon when the wind started howling.

“He looked out this window over here and when he did, it was like a white whirlwind it just like come down here and took the roof, within a few seconds it was gone,” said Ratliff.

She said that a portion of the roof went flying off of their mobile home. The couple had recently spent tens of thousands of dollars renovating.

Her husband is a retired coal miner with a number of health problems. She said that she is not sure how they will pay for repairs.

Ratliff said that more than anything, she is thankful everyone in the area is okay.

“He said, ‘well what we gon’ do?’ I said we can’t do anything but sit here but like I said it really could have took the whole thing. But I just thank God that it didn’t and He spared our lives. But it just happened, it was white and he saw it go around and in 2 seconds it was over,” she said.
