BOONE COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — A 15-year-old is seriously hurt after he was stabbed in the stomach in Union.

It happened just before 7:30 p.m. Tuesday on Richmond Road.

According to the Boone County Sheriff’s Office, 18-year-old August Schroer was walking with friends when the victim confronted him.

The victim reportedly shoved Schroer, knocking him down to one knee. As Schroer stood up, he pulled out a knife and told the victim to get back. Schroer told officials the victim came towards him with a raised fist. According to Schroer, as the victim moved closer, he stabbed the victim one time in the abdomen.

Schroer admitted that he did not see a weapon in the victim’s hand and stabbed the victim out of fear of being punched, police say.

Officials say the victim was flown to University Hospital in Cincinnati with life-threatening injuries.

After the incident, Schroer reportedly flagged down emergency medical service personnel in the area, handed the knife over to them, and waited for law enforcement to arrive.

Investigators say Schroer and the victim recently had a falling out.

Schroer is charged with first-degree assault.
