SCOTT COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18)– Scott County Schools announced Wednesday that they have been the victim of cyber fraud in the amount of $3.7 million.

Officials say that April 24, 2019, the district received a notification from one of their vendors that they didn’t receive payment of a recent invoice. They determined a fraudulent email led to the creation of an automated payment account.

Scott County Schools Superintendent Dr. Kevin Hub called Kentucky State Police and the FBI Office in Lexington.

The FBI is investigating the event and they are focusing on recovery efforts of the funds.

The school said that there has been no compromise to either the financial data system or to their student data management system. As a precaution, the Scott County Schools technology team has changed all passwords.
