PIKE COUNTY, Ky. (EKB) – A Pike County man was killed in what state police are calling a freak accident.

According to East Kentucky Broadcasting, police were dispatched to Elkhorn Truck Parks on the Regina Belcher Highway near Elkhorn City. Witnesses on scene say that 47-year-old Donald Belcher was servicing a tire on a commercial vehicle when it exploded. The initial reports were that Belcher was severely injured, however, when officials arrived on scene it was determined that he was killed.

The tire was mounted on what appeared to be a two-piece rim, which has caused numerous accidents and deaths in the past.

Belcher was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Pike County Coroner’s office.

Funeral arrangements are pending.
