RICHMOND, Ky. (LEX 18) – A Madison County man has landed in jail after police say he went out on a limb and stole over $1,000 worth of trees from an area business.

According to an arrest citation, Nicholas Gadd, 29, was arrested after an investigation into the theft of several trees from Silver Cliff Landscaping.

The owner of the business, Tom Horvat, tells LEX 18 that the thief or thieves nabbed the good stuff.

“They took Spiral Arbivitae. They took some Alberta Spruce, took some Spirea. Took some nice stuff. They knew what they were doing,” said Horvat.

The investigation started after deputies were called to where the manager noticed that two spruce trees were placed in the parking lot next to a fence.

Video from nearby businesses showed the individual had been in a car with three other suspects and Madison County Deputies posted their photos on Facebook to ask for information.

Once deputies went to Gadd’s home, they discovered several trees on the property that matched the description of the stolen items. They also found house plants in a burn pile that had tags from the business. The total amount of stolen merchandise amounted to $1,282.43

They don’t believe Gadd is the only one at the root of the theft. Police believe this branches off to three other persons of interest.
