LOUISVILLE, Ky. (LEX 18)– Former UK basketball player Rajon Rondo was in his hometown Thursday giving back.

Rondo is from Louisville and now plays for the Los Angeles Lakers.

He spoke to students at two schools telling them to read, whether it’s comics, joke books, or even about basketball – just pick up 10 books and read them.

“I’m looking at those guys, and I was once there, a long long time ago, so it’s very exciting to be here as a speaker and someone they look up to,” Rondo said.

The students were also given backpacks and reading tools.

This was the first year of the the Trifecta Gala Library Program, which is an extension of the Trifecta Gala.
