RICHMOND, Ky. (LEX 18) — A driver was killed and a passenger was injured when a vehicle crashed into a tree Saturday morning in Richmond, officials said.

The Madison County Coroner said two people were in a vehicle traveling from Garrard County to Richmond when the vehicle left the roadway and slammed into a tree.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene of injuries caused by blunt force trauma, officials said. The passenger was taken to an area hospital. That person’s condition was not immediately released.

The coroner said that alcohol was not suspected to be a factor in the crash.

Authorities said the dead person was about 20 years old, but the identity was being withheld pending notification of family.
