LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18)– A Lexington woman had to get around 20 shots this week after a bat bit her while she was doing yard work.

It happened Tuesday afternoon at a yard on Faulkner Avenue off Russell Cave Road.

Chloe Dykes tells LEX 18 that she had finished mowing the grass when she reached down to pull out some weeds. As she was pulling on a dandelion, she said a bat that was down on the ground bit her.

“I just felt a tiny pinch, so there was a couple of seconds where I was like ‘oh it’s a walnut, a black walnut pinched me,’ but then it opened its wings and it was definitely a bat,” she said.

Dykes went to the emergency room where doctors gave her around 20 shots.

There’s no word on whether the bat that bit Dykes was rabid, but experts say last year, several bats in that neighborhood tested positive for rabies.
