MADISON COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18)– The Blue Grass Army Depot in Madison County is preparing to mark a milestone when it begins destroying its chemical weapons stockpile.

It will begin dismantling mustard gas projectiles within the next several weeks.

Senator Mitch McConnell will be making a visit May 29, along with Department of Defense leaders and guests, to cut the ribbon on the new “agent-destruction pilot plant.”

The main plant, which will destroy the nerve agent, is expected to start up later this year.
