FRANKFORT, Ky. (LEX 18)– Flags across the state will fly at half-staff Thursday in honor of a Fort Campbell soldier who was killed on assignment.

28-year-old Private Michael Thomason died in a non-combat mission in Syria last month.

The Detroit native was a member of Fort Campbell’s 101st airborne division.

He was the second member of that division to die in a 10 day period.

Richmond native Specialist Ryan Dennis Orin Riley died days before in a non-combat related incident in Iraq.

Thomason will be laid to rest Thursday in Michigan with full military honors.
