LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) – If you heard a thundering sound around Lexington today, no, it wasn’t the weather.

The roar was more than 100 motorcyclists riding for a cause.

They came out for the first ‘Ride for the Heroes’ event.

The goal was to help homeless veterans.

Money raised from registration and raffle sales will go towards the Wounded Warrior Project and the Hope Center in Lexington.

“When they go to transition out and get on their own, this money can help them get furniture, their deposit, first month’s rent. It’s whatever they need, just for the veterans there at the Hope Center,” said Kathy Garrison, the event’s organizer.

Garrison says she hoped to raise $4,000, and she plans to make it an annual event.
