ANDERSON COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18)- It was an emotional day in court as the woman responsible for her friend’s death was sentenced to five years in jail.

In July of 2018, Brianna Watson pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the death of Sydney Peffer.

Peffer was killed in a 2016 car crash. Watson was behind the wheel.  It took nearly a year after that plea of Watson to be sentenced, which was frustrating to Peffer’s family members.

In court, however, Peffer’s family offered Watson forgiveness for her role in the crash.

“We forgive you. We forgive you. Sydney would have wanted us to. But forgiveness does not negate responsibility,” Peffer’s aunt told Watson during her statement.

Watson was sentenced to five years in jail.
