LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18)– Another Lexington family is about to benefit from the generosity of the community.

Mona Ashby said that she wanted to become a homeowner at least by the age of 50. The dream once seemed unattainable, but has become a reality within a matter of months.

LEX 18 has partnered with several area companies including CHI St. Joseph Health to help make Ashby a homeowner, and Habitat for Humanity will take it from here.

The once vacant lot on Betty Hope Lane now has a foundation’s footprint to a new home.

Construction will take place during the coming summer months.

“Been through a lot of things in my life, and for me to have this opportunity to come through Habitat and be able to have something to call my own, is such a tremendous blessing,” said Ashby.

Ashby is scheduled to move in to her home by September 2019. We won’t say her age, but she tells LEX 18 that she’ll beat her goal to own a home by 50 by quite a while.
