HARDIN COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18)– A soldier from Elizabethtown wanted to surprise his family when he came home from deployment.

But it didn’t quite work out the way he planned.

Army Specialist Christian Cruz has been in Guantanamo for the last ten months.

He was keeping his homecoming plans quiet, hoping to surprise his family. But his commanding officer accidentally spilled the beans and called his mom.

Since his older brother picked him up at the airport, that left only his middle school brother to be surprised.

Luckily, that worked out pretty well — even though Christian wasn’t sure how his brother, Bryan, would take it.

“I feel like he’s going to be more embarrassed than surprised,” Cruz said. “Cause he doesn’t deal with embarrassment too much or surprises very well.”

Still, it was a heartwarming moment for the military policeman who says he’s still getting used to being back home.
