GEORGETOWN, Ky. (LEX 18) – The 42nd annual Horsey Hundred will take place in Georgetown, Ky. this weekend.

Nearly 3,000 cyclists from 30+ states will hit the road to bike across four Central Kentucky counties. The Horsey Hundred celebrates the unofficial start of summer.

In 2015, a Lexington attorney was hit and killed while riding in the event. Since then, event organizers have taken more precautions to ensure rider safety.

“Everyone of our cyclists… in an intersection, will be manned by a law enforcement officer. We’ve responded by protecting peoples’ safety,” Georgetown Mayor Tom Prather said.

Event organizers are also preparing for hot weather. Riders may choose earlier start times to beat the heat.

Georgetown police have also released a video with safety tips.
