(LEX 18) — If you’re traveling for Memorial Day weekend, you should expect a lot of company.

AAA estimates more Americans will be hitting the road for the holiday than did last year.

Patience will be key this weekend as 43 million Americans are expected to travel over the next few days — that’s a million more than last year.

Families will be hauling boats and RVs down Interstate Highway 75, sharing the road with semis. Caution is key.

“Never drive beside a semi. If you’re going to go faster, go past the semi,” said truck driver Steve Norton. “You never know when a tire is going to pick up something off the road and sling it into your car.”

And national price of gasoline is on the rise, inching closer to the $3 per gallon mark. But despite that, AAA says it expects crowded roadways.
