LEE COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18)– Six kayakers had to be rescued over the weekend after an incident on the Kentucky River.

The call came in around 8:30 p.m. Sunday.

Officials say the kayakers got caught in a storm around the Airedale Bridge in Beattyville.

That’s when they reportedly abandoned their kayaks on the river and went on walking and looking for shelter before eventually calling for help.

All six were successfully rescued in good condition, other than being wet and shaken up.

The rescue was a joint effort between Lee County Search and Rescue and the Tri-Community Volunteer Fire Department.
