NWS: Prestonsburg Storm Ruled Downburst With Peak Winds At 70 MPH

PRESTONSBURG, Ky. (LEX 18)– The National Weather Service said that the storm that caused damage in Prestonsburg Wednesday was ruled a downburst with peak winds at 70 miles per hour.

The storm caused damage throughout the community and the highest wind gust, according to the NWS, was in downtown Prestonsburg where a roof was partially ripped off a building by wind, killing a driver on West Court Street.

The NWS also said that a number of other buildings downtown had minor roof damage and there were uprooted trees in downtown Prestonsburg.
