FRANKFORT, Ky. (LEX 18) – Food insecurity is a big problem in Kentucky, especially during the summer months.

Between the months of May and August, children 18 and under from low-income families can receive free meals as part of the USDA’s Summer Food Service Program.

The Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) partners with more than 170 school districts and community organizations statewide to offer nutritious meals, recreational fun and educational activities to students during the summer months.
