LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18)– From the mass shooting in Virginia Beach to recent incidents in Lexington, people want to stand up against gun violence.
This weekend, some Central Kentucky communities are doing just that.
Friday marks the start of nationalWear Orange Weekend to raise awareness of gun violence.
The color started representing this issue after a young woman was shot and killed in Chicago in 2013, her friends wore orange in her honor.
At noon Friday, there will be a vigil in front of the courthouse in Georgetown. Businesses downtown have put up reminders for people to participate.
And in Lexington, there will be a community event Saturday afternoon at Duncan Park hosted by Moms Demand Action.
