Police: Man Pours Gasoline, Barricades Inside Ex-Girlfriends Boone Co. Home

BOONE COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — Police in Boone County arrested a man who they say poured gasoline at his ex-girlfriend’s home on Saturday and then later barricaded himself inside.

Derek T. Gibson

Authorities said 44-year-old Derek T. Gibson was arrested for failing to appear in court on charges for a January arrest for assault, unlawful imprisonment and emergency protection order violation charges.

The Boone County Sheriff’s Department said its officers received reports just after noon Saturday that Gibson was arguing with his ex-girlfriend and had allegedly broken her back window and poured gasoline inside the home in the 700 block of Plum Tree Lane.

Gibson had left the area by the time deputies arrived, however.

Hours later, a neighbor reported to police that Gibson was seen entering the ex-girlfriend’s home. The woman was not home at the time. The sheriff’s SWAT and Negotiation Team were called out after it was determined Gibson was barricaded inside and was refusing to leave.

Police say they attempted negotiations for hours with “minimal communication” before entering the home, where they said they found Gibson hiding in the attic.

He was being held in the Boone County Detention Center.
