PRESTONSBURG, Ky. (LEX 18) – Three weeks after severe storms caused a roof collapse that resulted in one death, Court Street  in downtown Prestonsburg has reopened.

Michael Coleman, 62, of Pikeville was driving down Court Street when part of a roof fell on to his car. Other cars were also crushed. Coleman’s passenger, his fiancéewas unharmed.

“The man’s fiancée crawled herself out of the truck and we brought her into the office,” said Sarah Lange Hyden, who works in the area.  “She looked really lucky. She didn’t have a scratch on her. She was obviously devastated. I think she said they were getting married this weekend, so it was really so horrible.”

It took several weeks to remove debris from the roadway and to check the structural integrity of the building. Normal traffic patterns have resumed, the city of Prestonsburg announced.
