SCOTT COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18)– A pedestrian was struck and killed on northbound Interstate 75 early Thursday morning.

The crash happened around mile marker 122. According to officials on scene, the driver had pulled over on his way to work and was speeding up to merge back onto I-75 while looking over his left shoulder when he “felt something.”

Sheriff’s officials say he hit a man who was walking on the side of the road.

The Scott County Coroner has identified the victim as Michael Edwards of Lexington, Ky. The driver told authorities he never saw Edwards due to low-light conditions.
